Toronto Blues Society

The Toronto Blues Society (TBS) was formed in 1985, by Derek Andrews, David Barnard and John Valenteyn. They wanted to ensure that blues music, an indigenous North American art form, was guaranteed a continued presence in Toronto.

Pender Harbour Blues Society

Blues fans mark off the first weekend in June for the 8th annual Pender Harbour Blues Festival. June 3, 4, 5 - a weekend full of the blues served up just the way you like it.

Johnny Ferreira, rock and roll sax star, with the sensational Nadine States, opens the weekend Friday, June 3, at the Garden Bay Pub. Johnny’s ferocious sax trax combined with the Tina Turner-esque voice of Nadine States, gets the weekend off to a boisterous start. Back again this year - tickets for inside or outside seating.

Dance the night away with Brickhouse Saturday night at the Pender Harbour Community Hall. Come out for a rockin’ good time dancing to the high energy sound cooked up by Brickhouse. This band is a crowd pleaser delivering infectious toe tapping blues that will have you up on your feet all night long.

Gary Comeau and his Voodoo All Stars keep things jumping at the Garden Bay Pub Saturday night. Blues fan favourites, Gary and the boys deliver the zydeco and cajun style goods.

Take in the fabulous free shows Saturday in Madeira Park and at John Henry’s from noon until 5. Also at Madeira Park is the craft/art show - come out and find that special something while listening to great music. Or check out the Saturday jam at the Garden Bay Pub.

Sunday, catch Tim Hearsey and Arsen Shomakhov, starting at 2 pm, in the All Star Jam at the Garden Bay Pub.

New for the 2011 Pender Harbour Blues Festival: Dinner shows at the Painted Boat and the Grasshopper Pub

During the dinner hour take in some fabulous music while you dine. The Restaurant at the Painted Boat will be presenting the beautiful and talented Diane Lines, Friday and Saturday evening, June 3rd and 4th. Pianist for Michael Bubble, sultry singer with the Dal Richards Orchestra, and pianist/arranger for the Universal Gospel Choir, Diane does it all. Diane studied performance with the legendary Cleo Laine. Her voice is as smooth as silk, and she plays great jazz piano. Let Diane take you on a journey through Swing, Jump Blues, and Boogie Woogie. Sunday School was never this good! Come worship at the Church of Blues with the Diane Lines as she performs her Great Gospel Experience. Diane shows us yet another style of her amazing talent. Diane will be closing the Festival at The Garden Bay Pub, Sunday night.

The Grasshopper Pub will be presenting Willie McCalder. Singer, story teller, and founding Powder Blues pianist, Willie performs his own brand of New Orleans jazz, Blues, and Boogie Woogie. With a voice reminiscent of Dr John and over 40 years of performing, Willie knows how to keep a crowd calling for more. The Grasshopper creates a traditional Pender Harbour pub atmosphere injected with a West Coast Contemporary flair. The bar& grill offers an exciting atmosphere indoors or outdoors, with a spectacular view of Pender Harbour.
